Spooky Romantasy Books for Halloween (From Someone Who Doesn't Do Horror) πβ¨
Confession: I am not a horror reader. Jump scares, gore, things crawling out of mirrors: hard pass. But October still gets me every year, because there is a whole corner of romantasy that embodies spooky season: witches, haunted courts, morally-grey men with secrets, gothic manors, and magic that comes with a cost.
With Halloween eleven days out, this is my official October reading list, split into the books I have already devoured and the ones climbing my TBR because BookTok will not stop yelling about them.
Witchy & Cursed Magic π§ββοΈβ¨
If witches do not scream Halloween, I do not know what does.
The Throne of Glass Witches (Manon Blackbeak's Arc) π§Ήπ€
I am in the middle of Heir of Fire right now and the Ironteeth witches are perfect October reading: hundred-year-old warrior witches, wyverns, blood oaths, and a witch heir who bonds with the runt nobody wanted. Manon choosing Abraxos in the pit is one of my favorite scenes in the series so far. If you have been saving Throne of Glass for a moody season, this is the sign.
Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole (The Kindred's Curse Saga) π₯π
Mortals versus immortal Descended royalty, ancient forbidden magic, and a slow-burn enemies-to-lovers dynamic featuring Prince Luther Corben brooding in the shadows. Everyone on BookTok has been raving about the tension and dark, atmospheric worldbuilding. It has the exact witchy, high-stakes bite I want on a chilly October night, and I am ready to see what Diem is capable of before the month wraps up.
Gothic Romantasy & Sinister Courts π°π₯
Crumbly manors, secrets in the walls, and romance that feels dangerous: gothic is my favorite flavor of spooky.
The Gilded Series (The Plated Prisoner) by Raven Kennedy, starting with Gild β¨ποΈ
A castle encased in gold, secrets lurking behind gilded bars, and King Midas's court where luxury hides something genuinely sinister. Dark, twisted, and deeply psychological, this has been sitting at the top of my gothic TBR forever. Plus, everyone keeps whispering about Commander Rip and his shadowy, lethal energy. It feels like the ultimate eerie October binge.
ACOTAR's Darker Corners ππ‘οΈ
The Autumn Court, the Bone Carver, the Weaver: Sarah J. Maas hides genuinely creepy stuff inside her prettiest series. With A Court of Splintered Harmony dropping next week (October 27!), a reread of the spookiest ACOTAR moments is basically productive at this point. The Night Court in October just makes sense.

Fae Fantasy Romance Vinyl Sticker Pack
Velaris tickets, Gwydion sword, Chapter 54, βKneel For No One,β and Night Court mountains.
Dark Fantasy Romance With Bite πβ‘
For the nights you want something a little sharper.
Fourth Wing, But Make It October β‘π€
Dragons are not strictly Halloween-coded, but hear me out: stormy war colleges, midnight flights, and a love interest who is objectively a walking red flag have serious dark fantasy energy. Basgiath in autumn? Violet navigating it all with her wits? This series lives in my head rent-free year-round, but October is when it hits hardest.

Lightning Wielder Romantasy Sticker Pack
Xaden flight patches, βI Choose Violence,β and βIt's Been My Honorβ vinyl decals.
Quicksilver by Callie Hart (The Fae & Alchemy Series) ππ§ͺ
Vampires, alchemy, deadly desert wastelands, and shadow-wielding fae warriors. BookTok will not stop screaming about Fisher (aka Kingfisher), and when you tell me a dark fantasy romance features shadow magic, dangerous bargains, and a bite of real danger, I am powerless to resist. It sounds sharp, atmospheric, and deliciously high-heat for spooky season.
Spooky-Season Kindle Decorating π±β¨
Here is my actual October ritual: I redo my Kindle case for the season. The summer stickers come off, and on go the moody ones: dark florals, dragon silhouettes, witchy quotes, and anything with a moon phase on it. A Kindle dressed for spooky season is, in my professional opinion as a sticker designer, the fastest way to make your reading corner feel like October.
If you are doing the same, lean into the palette: deep purples, burnt orange, black florals, and silver moons. And honestly? A well-placed witch or dragon sticker does more for the vibe than any pumpkin-spice candle ever could. (I said what I said.)
