✨ ACOTAR 6 Release Day

ACOTAR 6 Is Out Today: How I'm Dodging Spoilers (and Starting It My Way)

A Court of Splintered Harmony on the bookshelf next to Throne of Glass and ACOTAR

Today is the day. A Court of Splintered Harmony (ACOTAR 6) is out, and my preorder is finally a real book instead of a date I have been counting down to for months. I am excited, I am a little feral about it, and I am absolutely not opening social media without a plan first.

Because here is the thing about release week: the internet wants to tell you everything, immediately, in all caps, usually in a headline you didn't ask to read. I love this fandom, but I love an unspoiled first read more. So this is my spoiler-free starting plan (no ACOTAR 6 plot details in this post, I promise) for anyone else who wants to walk into Prythian fresh.

How to Avoid ACOTAR 6 Spoilers on Release Week

This is the least glamorous part of release day, and the most important one. Here is what actually works for me:

  • Mute first, scroll later: Before I open any app, I mute the obvious words: the book title, character names, and phrases like "ACOTAR 6 spoilers," for at least a week. It takes two minutes and saves me from the accidental headline that ruins a whole twist.
  • Stay off the "For You" pages: My own feed is mostly safe. The algorithm's idea of what I want is not. Release week is not the week to doomscroll the explore page.
  • Pick one safe place to be excited: For me, that's my group chats with people who are reading at roughly my pace, where "no spoilers" is an actual rule and not a suggestion. One excited corner beats a hundred risky ones.
  • Don't click "just to check": You know the click I mean: the one where you tell yourself you'll only read the first line of the review. The first line is never just the first line. I am not doing it this time.

My ACOTAR 6 Reading Plan (No Full Reread Required)

I am not rereading five books before I start book 6. I already did the homework, and if your memory is fuzzy, you don't have to redo it either. I wrote a longer refresher last week (What to Remember Before ACOTAR 6), and then a five-minute SparkNotes version with a readiness quiz (ACOTAR 6 SparkNotes & Quiz), precisely so release week wouldn't turn into a homework assignment. Read one of those, or neither, and then just start.

My plan is simple on purpose:

1. Start when I can actually pay attention

Not at midnight, half-asleep, refreshing a delivery page. I want my first chapter to be a chapter I remember, not one I skimmed while exhausted.

2. One chapter before anything else

Same rule as my reading-nook ritual: phone in another room, drink made, one chapter with nothing else competing for my brain. If it hooks me (and let's be honest, it will), I keep going.

3. No notes, no pressure, first time through

I can tab the scenes that wreck me and reread them later. The first read is for feeling things, not for building a theory document. Theories are for the second read, and for the group chat afterwards.

4. Stop when I'm tired, not when I'm "done"

This book isn't going anywhere. A first read I actually enjoyed beats a first read I speedran just to say I'd finished it.

The Honest Part: Pausing Right Before the Tandem Read

Here is where I actually am in my reading journey: I just finished Queen of Shadows (and wow, what an ending). That means I am standing right at the door of the infamous Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn tandem read.

As much as I am dying to continue with Aelin and Rowan, there is simply no way I can start an epic, two-book tandem read while A Court of Splintered Harmony is sitting right in front of me. Trying to juggle the emotional weight of Throne of Glass with a brand-new ACOTAR book would give neither story the focus it deserves.

So I am officially pressing pause on Throne of Glass right before the tandem read. ACOSH gets my undivided attention first. Once my heart has processed whatever Sarah J. Maas does to us in Velaris, I will pick up my tandem bookmarks and dive right back into Erilea.

If you are in a similar spot, mid-series somewhere else or caught between two massive fictional worlds, give yourself permission to pause where it makes sense. Release day is a celebration, not a race. Give the story your full attention, protect your peace from spoilers, and enjoy every single page.

The Sticker-Brain Part (You Knew This Was Coming)

Release week has its own little ritual in my house now: one sticker for the book I am about to start. My Kindle gets a new flag for a new world, so that months from now, when I look at it, I can point to that sticker and remember exactly where I was when I first opened this book.

Our Night Court-inspired designs are getting their moment this week. No pressure, just a little marker for a book a lot of us have been waiting a long time for. If you mark your reads the way I do, pick the one that feels like this book to you and let it ride along for the first chapter.
